Communities are only as strong as the health of their women

We’re just a little bit in love with former first lady Michelle Obama and going through some old quotes today we came across two which really resonated for us as women and mothers.

Being healthy isn’t about getting on a scale or measuring your waistline…

Wouldn’t it be great if we could shift this ancient paradigm and start celebrating female health not just for our form but for everything we embody. For so long women have been judged on their bodies, and yes we’re all in favour of having healthy bodies, but there is so much more to our story. One of our main motivations for founding Kalila was to champion women’s health; body, mind and soul, and to provide a community where women can share and grow together.

Communities, countries, and ultimately the world are only as strong as the health of their women.

How true is this? Healthy women pass on their knowledge to their young, as our grandmothers, and mothers have likely done for us. And healthy women are more likely to raise healthy families who provide the foundation for our communities, countries and the world! Is it just us, or does it feel like we’re in a moment of history where we need to hear more of these positive messages? We think so! And whilst our hearts are still quietly missing the glorious role model that was Michelle, its up to all of us to become our own role models.

“Healthy” means different things to different people. For some its exercise, for others nutrition, for others its managing metal health and for others its finding peace and tranquility in a busy world. Whatever it means to you, we invite you to find an extra few minutes each day to dedicate to your health journey. Happy 4th July!
